PANTHEON

Tarmarc is considered the king of the gods, ruling from his throne atop the heavenly Mount Celestia. His domain is Light. He is often depicted as a majestic, golden or white dragon with angelic, feathery wings. His wife is Sel' Adrin, and his children include Jordaantorax, Phalanx, and Keirbeth.

Tarmarc is a very popular god in the realm of Aethos with many churches built to him, and many of the population offering up prayers to him. Kings and rulers will often swear in under his name, but he is also considered the god of good dragons.

Tarmarc is considered to be of the Lawful Good alignment.

For my DnD games, in terms of setting, I tend to go with homebrews. The gods that the players' characters may worship are no exception. In the setting I have been running my games out of for the past 2-3 years, I have been using this pantheon of gods. It is something I constructed for the setting and that has grown with it.

The pantheon takes its inspiration from many things including the gods of the Forgotten Realms official DnD setting, mythology, comic books, games, and all kinds of other places. Some the gods in it will be recognizable, and to you. If you like it, feel free to use it, be it the whole thing, or just pieces of it. The pantheon has its own mythology and stories that come with it, but for now, an introduction the gods is fine enough. Without further ado...

Havana is the goddess of life, fertility, and rain. She is often thought to be a much more humble goddess than her kin. Her domain makes her very popular amongst peasants and farmers due to it being heavily intertwined into their livelihoods. Due to this, she is often seen as a "peasant" goddess by those of a higher status.

She is often depicted as a beautiful woman with fawn-like qualities. Her temples are often quaint and humble, and her clerics worship in the rain, gaining them the name of "Rain Singers."

Havana is of the Neutral Good alignment.

Helm is the gatekeeper and protector of the Heavens. His domain is Protection, especially of others. He is a very popular god among paladins and those with a crusaders heart, as tenants of his followers include protecting those who cannot protect themselves and protecting good in the world.

He is depicted as a glorious, angelic warrior, ready to go to combat in order to protect the Heavens or his followers from those who would seek to see them destroyed. "Helm protect me" is a very common prayer invoked by many of Aethos.

Helm fits that of the archetypal Lawful Good alignment.

Thoridan, god of Victory, is often worshiped by those who find themselves going to war or battle. The people of Aethos believe it is through his intercession that battles can be won. He is generally depicted as a heroic warrior riding his battle chariot puled by two angelic goats.

Thoridan is also the patron god of Dwarves. They see themselves as his children, thus influencing Dwarvern society. Thoridan followers preach victory must be achieved honorably, not at all costs, as cheating and dishonor is not true victory. It is believed that great heroes will be sent to Vaargard when they die to feast in Haavidhall awaiting the final battle between good and evil.

Thoridan often fits the attributes of the Neutral Good alignment.

The goddess of Love and Beauty is Sel' Adrin, queen of the gods. She resides within the marble palace atop Mount Celestia with her husband Tarmarc, and her children Phalanx and Keirbeth. She is depicted as a heavenly elf or fae woman. Her followers uphold that people do good and nurture nature.

Sel' Adrin is called "the Mother of Elves," and they treat her as their patron. They claim she was the one who brought them into being, along with other fae creatures. She is seen as their patron as well. Due to her domain, Sel' Adrin's is often asked to bless weddings.

Due to her love of nature, Sel' Adrin is of the Chaotic Good alignment.

Arbor is the protector god of the wilderness and forests. He resides within the realm of Yggdrasil and is often depicted as a great, animated tree. He is often considered "the druid's god" due to his domain, and druid conclaves being devoted to him is very common in Aethos. They maintain a link with him through great Spirit Trees and divine stags known as Qilin. This link is very important to druids, and the death of a Qilin in Beladriath led to the Druid War in 3E 24.

Arbor is said to produce the Acorns for the Spirit Trees and is also thought of as the father of all dryads in Aethos. He is often considered the sylvan patron.

Selune is the goddess of joy. She continues to try and bring happiness to the people of Aethos from Bytopia, the twin city of Mirth and Knowledge. It is believed through selfless acts that joy can be brought to the world, and it is often said that Selune gave her own heart to Aethos so that it may know happiness.

She is often depicted as an angelic woman with a glowing hole in her chest. Due to their jovial nature, she is often considred the patron goddess of halflings.

Laurn is the goddess of the arts. She resides in the majestic Fields of Elysium where she constantly paints it beautiful like a great canvas. She was the wife of the now exiled Jordaantorax, but waits faithfully for her true love to return to her. Before his exile, Laurn had one child with Jordaantorax, the god Hecachonatier.

It is thought that she gave talents to mortals, and using these talents to better the world is seen as favorable amongst her followers. Bards, artisans, and the like will often turn to her for her guiding and steadying hand.

It is thought that Maggus helped to bring  magic to the mortals of Aethos. Being the god of magic, Maggus resides in Bytopia, ruling the second city of Knowledge. He helps to keep magic flowing throughout Aethos, but his followers take it upon themselves to regulate this use of magic and prevent people from practicing the Forbidden Arts.

Maggus is often depicted as a golem type creature held together by arcnae energy. The Mages of the Blue Moon are staunch followers of Maggus and his dogma.

Asteroth is the Lord of treachery. He was one of the progenitor deities known as Cosmic Lords that created the universes and the gods. He committed the first sin during the God War when he betrayed the Cosmic Lords and then attempted to usurp the gods. This sin brought evil into the world, and for this, Asteroth was cast into hell.

He is often depicted as a fiendish dragon, and hopes to one day be free from the shackles of the hells to invade the heavens.

Born of the Abyss and its swirling chaos, Baal embodies wanton destruction. Ultimately, he wishes to see all of creation burn for whatever reasons he has. He tries to get closer to this goal when he is not too busy with the Blood War between the devils and his demons. Cults devoted to Baal in Aethos try to further his goal of the destruction of the realm.

Baal is depicted as a demonic entity, and unlike Asteroth, does not trick those into following him, but rather letting mortals give into their urges.

It is said within deep in the Bar'kaeth Mountains of Gehenna resides a being since before even the Cosmic Lords. This being is the ancient lord of forbidden knowledge and dark magic, Dagon. Those seeking to know things mortals should not make prayers to him. He is thought to know secrets so terrible, it has driven gods mad.

Dagon is often thought of as a mass of testicles and eyes; an unworldly thing. Those seeking knowledge that mortals should not know will often pray to Dagon.

Blackheart is the terrible son of Asteroth. The god of shadows and terror, he killed the previous goddess of shadows to steal not only her, but the Shadowfell of Haddes from her for his own personal realm. He seeks to blot out all light in the realms, often putting him in direct conflict with Tarmarc.

Blackheart is a strange, faceless humanoid thing with long tendrils. He will often change his shape to terrorize others. The mind flayers of Aethos are considered his own, terrible followers and creations.

Surtur is the god of torment, pain, and suffering, and this makes him the best fit warden of the Carcerian Depths of Tartarus. He derives pleasure in torturing and punishing the prisoners the gods send him. His domain often puts him in direct conflict with Selune.

Surtur is often represented as a fiendish giant set ablaze. His followers are often sadists and try to be as cruel as he is, and evil giants often claim him as their patron. Legend says Surtur was once a Baernoloth but was granted godhood by Asteroth when he created the fiendish demodands.

Beelzebub inhabits the swirling mire of Pandemonium, and from there he crafts all kinds of disease to infect the mortal creature of Aethos. As the god of pestilence, Beezlebub brings sickness, plagues, droughts, and untimely death. He is also thought to bring curses to the land. His name is draconic for "Lord of the Flies."

He is often depicted as a rotten, fly thing, and he often finds himself in conflict with Havana and Ghuul. His followers often allow themselves to become infected by all manner of diseases to bring to the land.

Norn is the cruel goddess of deception and slavery. Originally just overseeing deception, Norn was able to trick the former god of slavery, Mastema, into a cruel, ironic servitude. She is a representation of the order that gods are supposed to bring to an extreme and evil level.

She is depicted as a strange, skinless humanoid, with ivory armor and an ornate face cover. Boragoth, Monokeiz, and Laurn are her rivals, as they greatly value freedom. Her followers are slavers or those who wish to bring order to the realm in the most iron fisted ways.
